Last week I sat on a panel at the Texas Conference for Women (Side note: in a moment of serendipity, I also got to meet the wonderful Dr. Lois Frankel, author of Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office and Nice Girls Don't Get Rich. I recommend her books to clients all the time-- if you haven't read them, check them out!).
The talk was called Second Acts and New Beginnings, but a lot of the audience members felt nervous about planning or launching a reinvention in the midst of economic uncertainty. As I told the audience (and am now telling you!), hanging tight is one of the riskiest strategies out there. Why?
The ability to reinvent yourself is the new form of job security!
Whether or not you need (or want) to make a move, it is essential that you know HOW to make a move. One of the biggest lessons from Wall Street's meltdown is that a 'safe' industry can implode in a matter of months. When that happens, jumping to a competitor is no longer an option-- career reinvention is the only effective strategy.
In response to what's going on, I've juggled my schedule to add a special 3-part teleclass series to the slate: How to Reinvent Your Career in Tough Times. The topics-- Overcoming Fear, What About the Money?, Creating A Strategy Plan-- were selected to help you deal with the some of the hurdles particular to reinventing yourself in in the midst of market turmoil.
How to Reinvent Your Career in Tough Times starts on Wednesday, October 29th and is priced at the 'economic stimulus' rate of $29/per teleclass, or $79 for the entire series! If you can't attend the calls, sign up anyway-- you'll still get the MP3 recordings of the calls and the customized worksheets, so you can do the work later at your own convenience. Register for the series-- or just one of the classes-- here.
In these tough times, there's no excuse not to have a career reinvention strategy planned out, ready to launch at a moment's notice! As the former employees of Lehman no doubt understand, the only safe haven is the one you build for yourself....
