Last week I sat on a panel at the Texas Conference for Women (Side note: in a moment of serendipity, I also got to meet the wonderful Dr. Lois Frankel, author of Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office and Nice Girls Don't Get Rich.  I recommend her books to clients all the time-- if you haven't read them, check them out!). 

The talk was called Second Acts and New Beginnings, but a lot of the audience members felt nervous about planning or launching a reinvention in the midst of economic uncertainty.  As I told the audience (and am now telling you!), hanging tight is one of the riskiest strategies out there.  Why?

The ability to reinvent yourself is the new form of job security!

Whether or not you need (or want) to make a move, it is essential that you know HOW to make a move.  One of the biggest lessons from Wall Street's meltdown is that a 'safe' industry can implode in a matter of months.  When that happens, jumping to a competitor is no longer an option-- career reinvention is the only effective strategy.

When it comes to money there are many barriers, both emotional and practical, that can trip us up.  Sometimes it's our attitudes ('It'll be too hard to pull together the money' or 'I'm stuck; the pay is too good here'), sometimes our fears (usually of poverty or lack), sometimes it's the practical logistics ('I need to take a $5000 certification course to pursue my dream career; where do I come up with the money?').  They all may 'seem' serious, but none have to block you from pursuing your reinvention (read the story of Bart and Nina Murphy for inspiration).

What’s the difference between the eCourse and the teleclass version of these seminars?

The biggest difference is that teleclass is live and interactive, which means we’ll be able to go more into depth on the topics covered in the eCourse.
